I would guess this is coming from your back.: The nerve supply for these areas comes out of the low back. You can be worse during your menstrual cycle because of the extra fluid and pelvic congestion will add pressure to the nerves. Sometimes the tingling on the thigh is specific to a nerve called the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. It is fairly common with tight clothes or people employed that lean against the counter or have a heavy toolbelt. If it's really bothering you a lot you should go see your doctor and get checked out for the possibility of a lumbar disc.

Yes: It is a tendonitis and it mostly causes pain of the thumb with apposition and extension. If the inflammation is bad enough it can compress the nerve that arises at the dorsum of the wrist and can cause numbness and tingling in fingers innervated by that nerve.

Why indeed: Whatever is causing the numbness &amp; tingling is also causing the painful sensation. The sense of touch is multimodality &amp; of mind-mangling complexity. When you say the areas are "more painful," do you mean allodynia, hyperpathia, dysesthesia or hyperalgesia? (The idea is now for you to look up those terms and try to determine which 1 (or more) applies to you.)

Medical workup: These sensations appear to be muscular in origin and can be seen in a variety of conditions e.g. Chiari malformation, dermatomyositis, tension myositis, psycho-social stress, depression, suppressed anger, post traumatic stress disorder, spinal deformity, spinal cord tumors, the list goes on. If symptoms persist see your primary care physician for a medical workup.
