i have been on nortriptyline for 7 years. i have recently gone off of it from 50 mg in a 2 week period. how long will the "withdrawal" effects last?

Nortriptylene: Stopping Nortriptylene does not usually cause a withdrawal syndrome, but the symptoms for which it was prescribed can return -- especially if the discontinuation was relatively abrupt.  You have not specified what those issues were, so I would caution you to discuss this with your physician.

i have gone cold turkey off 100mg nortriptyline now on day 5. how much longer can i expect withdrawal symtoms (disturbed sleep, dizzy, wierd tingling)?

Not a good idea!: never is a good idea to "cold turkey" stop a medication, especially on your own w/o your Doctors guidance. The "withdrawal symptoms" days will depend on how long you have taking it, the longer the more days you will need. The concerning part is that the problem you started taking the medication for , like depression, could crash you and some people have become suicidal. Call your physician ASAP!

Nicotine: Withdrawal from caffeine is most likely to cause headaches. Withdrawal from nortriptyline is most likely to cause G.I. Difficulties. Your symptoms are as a result of withdrawal from nicotine.

Yes: 25 mg is the minimum dose. Even if you have been taking it for many years, the only negative effect would be trouble sleeping since that is what you were taking it for in the first place.

A few days: The full therapeutic effects of this kind of antidepressant takes about 6 weeks.  But the chemical changes occur rather quickly, within about 36 hours.  So it should be out of your system in about a week, depending on your metabolism.

7-10 days : Median half life for nortryptiline is about 25-30 hours. So i average to get out of your system roughly, its about 7-10 days. That's of course is a rough estimate, as there are a lot of variables that van affect the elimination half life.
