Immature neutrophils: Bands are a reference to immature neutrophils ( a white blood cell which destroys or ingests bacteria) Increased number occur in response to stress, inflammation or injury. CRP (C-reactive Protein) is also increased in inflammation or infection. The combination of both of these being high in a newborn can indicate an infection (newborn septicemia). Talk to your childs Dr. They may want to readmit.

Rectal: Temp should be taken rectally in newborns for accuracy.  Any temo over 100.4 is considered a fever

Accepted Answer

No: The prothrombin time (PT) measures if the levels of Factor 7, a protein involved in clotting, is adequate. In a neonate, all such proteins or factors, are decreased. The PT of 45s is rather high. There should be a pediatric hematologist who should see your newborn. If you are incorrectly referring to the Partial Prothrombin Time (PTT) being 45s, then that should be fine and will correct soon.

6 lb neonate had nissen fundoplication surgery and now has difficulty burping. baby is 11 lbs now at 2 months adjusted age. at what age/weight will the nissen stretch and allow for normal burping?

You should: speak with the surgeon who performed the operation.  The average pediatrician will not know the answer to this question, and it's best to ask the surgeon who has likely performed and followed up many of these types of cases.

CXR: If it is a single frontal view the heart is overlying the left lung base.  So behind the heart is difficult to see    this is a normal finding....

: Skull fractures in infants often self-heal. If there is a depressed fracture &amp; it doesn't require a procedure  to raise the depression it is left alone. Monitoring for a period is usually done in case the covering (dura) may be trapped in the break &amp; prevent healing. I do not recall any that I encountered with this description ever requiring any special treatment. They all healed.

Yes: The newborn skull is often slightly misshapen (the classic look is that of a cone head) after birth.  This is due to the skull bones being squeezed during the vaginal birthing process.  This is a normal occurrence, and the skull bones will settle on their own within a few weeks.

Not uncommon: if not painful, child is gaining weight, and no associated diarrhea, then wouldn't worry. Formula change may be of benefit. How old, what is formula? Unimpaired growth and development?

Accepted Answer

Call your doctor.: How old is the baby? Is he/she still in the hospital? Jitteriness in a newborn can be caused by low blood sugar, drug withdrawal (if a mom has been taking opiod/narcotic drugs) and sometimes infection. You should have your baby seen by his/her doctor.
