It depends somewhat: On when the blood was drawn, which exact tests were done, and by what lab, but generally the numbers look totally normal. Your pituitary gland seems to think the levels are appropriate. If you have questions, check w/your doctor.

Depends: If you are a woman on how old you are. Ask the doc who ordered the tests to interpret them for you.

Misunderstood tests: Menopause is not diagnosed based on high FSH and LH levels, but low levels can rule it out. As you get older the ovaries become increasingly resistant to ovulation and require ever higher FSH and LH levels to respond. Eventually they will not respond at all, you can no longer ovulate and you will have no more periods. The official diagnosis of menopause is no periods for a year. You are normal.

Not diagnostic : FSH levels vary throughout the month and can not be used as an isolated test to diagnose menopause. A high level at age 47 is supportive of someone being near menopause but if you still have regular cycles then menopause has not yet occurred.

Fsh relates to: Egg development, not estrogen level, which is regulated by another pituitary hormone known as lh.

Low estrogen: Fsh stimulates estrogen production.  If estrogen is low the stimulation increases, causing the fsh to be elevated.

Mid-40's ?'s: High FSH is a precursor to early menopause, and produces higher estrogen levels b/c the eggs require more stimulation to ovulate.  This may create "regular" periods (28-34 days apart) but without increased FSH, ovulation would not take place, and periods would be much farther apart, as a prelude to ending altogether.

hello, my fsh was normal -7, and my lh was -5.6
however, my estrogen was only 36 on day 8! i am only 22 and my doctor said this was a low level. what can cause normal fsh but low estrogen? please help me?

: On "day 8" of a normal cycle, the FSH and LH are normal, but ovarian production of estrogen may still be rising.  A repeat of estrogen levels at "day 20-25" should find normal estrogen levels present. If normal breast development, and regular cycles are occurring,  estrogen levels with normal FSH and LH change depending on the time the blood test is drawn.

Not ovulating: With PCO, the ratio of LH to FSH is 2:1 or higher. It sounds like you are not ovulating. You need to talk with your doctor about treatment options.
