how does chemotherapy target exactly your colon cancer? does it kill off a lot of normal colon cells too?

It doesnt: Chemo works by inhibiting/killing cells which grow faster than normal cells. There are side effects because normal cells divide as a normal function, so yes, normal cells are affected too. The trick is to give enough to kill the bad cells, and not so much that the side effects are intolerable.

had stage 1 sessile colon polyp excised. a month later the same area was biopsied, no cancer cells found, no mets in ct, cea normal. good idea to wait 6 months to recheck?

Discuss with GI Dr.: It depends on the size and pathology of the sessile polyp. 

If this polyp was already a cancer, this may need to addressed based on how much thickness of the bowel wall it invaded.

Your GI surgeon is the best resource for this. Please note this may cause you problems  down the line if you ignore his advice.

Squamous: Disseminated squamous cell carcinomas with no obvious primary often are ultimately found to have arisen in the nasal sinuses. There are even protocols for treating "squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary". We may still have something to offer that's worthwhile. Best wishes.

Air fluid levels: In the colon are a non specific finding that must be interpreted within the whole clinical picture....there may be no clinical significance, or it could be a sign of pathology such as colonic obstruction.  Without additional clinical information, there is no way to ventures guess.

Pain never normal: Pain on the left side of the: could be related to constipation or to  diverticulosis to name a couple possible reasons. Pain is never normal. If you're having problems, see your doctor to have it evaluated.

Screening up to date: You should’ve been receiving colon cancer screening since age of 50 years.  Did you have recent colonoscopy? If not, you should discuss it with your doctor.

Yes: The more diarrhea you have the better bowel prep and subsequent colonoscopy exam you will get.

how long does it take for the colon to return to "normal" after being treated for colitis?

It depends: If the colitis is a temporary type (i.e. Due to infection) it should return to normal sometime with a couple of months, depending on the damage done.  If it is proctitis, ulcerative colitis, or crohn's disease, it may be years or lifelong.  This disease can be very difficult to diagnose with certainty and usually comes and goes.  See your doctor if it doesn't return to normal.

Colon prep: No, vomiting due to a colon prep is not normal, but can happen on occasion.
