CXR will confirm dx: Health Care provider will order a chest xray (CXR) if they want to confirm or rule out Pneumonia.  Cold viruses can cause symptoms that seem like pneumonia &amp; patients can have significant bronchitis symptoms associated with wheezing.  When listening to a patient's lungs who  has asthmatic bronchitis, it is sometimes difficult to diagnose pneumonia &amp; CXR may be ordered.Treatment depends on report

Accepted Answer

Yes: You could have a small or minor pneumonia or one in a hard place to see on chest x-ray but in general, if the x-ray is clear, you probably don't have it. Can always get a repeat in a few days if symptoms persist or worsen to see if a pneumonia becomes more apparent.

The chest xray: itself cannot diagnose pneumonia, because there are a variety of things that can look like pneumonia on an xray.  The xray findings must be interpreted in the context of the clinical and laboratory findings in order to arrive at a diagnosis.  The xray findings can therefore support the diagnosis, but are not sufficient to establish the diagnosis.

Not really: pneumonia should show immediately, Earlier some felt it may take time to show in pts with dehydration or neutropenia ie white blood cells decreased

Looks different: Pneumonia is a patchy or consolidated infiltrate,  and TB are smaller cavitay lesions or spots in the lung.

i had a chest x-ray done on the 2nd bcuz i had covid. i finally tested negative today. on day 13. now my cough changed from dry to kinda wet and i hear a little rattling. should i be worried about pneumonia? can it develop in 3 days ?

: If you have no fever this might resolve in a few days for overwhelming chance it is not pneumonia. If not pl see your doc

Talk to your doctor: This is a potentially very severe situation.  The adenopathy or hilar mass may be causing a post-obstructive pneumonia, or the hilar lesions and the pulmonary infiltrates may be part of a single entity such as sarcoidosis.   This should be discussed at length with the doctor caring for you.
