But if it gets painful, it may be from shingles and you need to see your doctor ASAP to get started on an anti-viral drug to reduce potential complications. Suspect shingles if the rash does not extend beyond the mid-line of the body.

i have been taking plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) for 3 weeks. a fine, red, non itchy rash has appeared on my back and chest.  is this a side effect that will go away?

Yes: Hair bleaching, hair loss, skin pigmentation, rash and itching are recognized  skin adverse reactions of plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine). These reactions tend to be worse if a patient is taking other medications that have similar skin toxicity.Please consult a dermatologist to ensure skin lesions are not psoriatic because Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) use needs special precautions in psoriasis.

i have an itchy rash on my chest, it keeps spreading to shoulders and breast. i usually use fluticasone propionate 0.005% ointment for rashes but it doesn't help in this case. also, i moved from eu to the us a year ago. please help.

Need to be seen: start with your doctor, who may refer you to a dermatologist, it could very well be a fungal infection. Kindly don't use a strong steroid, prescription strength, medication as fluticasone  ointment  without doctor's supervision, best wishes

Do not be worried: If the rash is on both sides of the chest, then you might have folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. If you work out, this could happen. Try an over the counter benzoyl peroxide wash (mildest) and if there is not improvement see your PMD or dermatologist.

Treatment if needed would depend on what it is.
