Accepted Answer

Yes: if an appropriate candidate you can have a vaginal hysterectomy or laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy.  Don't worry too much about the issue with morcelation.  The media has blown it way out of proportion.

I would say: yes. But I am biased because I am an advanced minimally invasive surgeon. Having 3 pencil eraser size incisions vs a larger skin incision allows for less pain and a quicker recovery and shorter hospital stay. i might have to take tamoxifen (invasive ductal carcinoma-waiting for hormone tests to come back). wouldn't a hysterectomy accomplish the same thing with fewer side effects?

No: tamoxifen blocks your estrogen receptors in any breast tissue that might remain after the surgery.  Go for it

2 weeks: If feeling well without problems postoperatively, swimming is ok as early as 2 weeks postop.

Surgical indication: If there is a clear surgical indication for hysterectomy at age 28 (like a cervical cancer) a Gyn oncologic surgeon can and will discuss the pros and cons of hysterectomy with a patient and assist her  in the difficult process to arrive at a "shared decision making" for hysterectomy.

Ask: Ask your surgeon - he or she has post-op guidelines for you depending on several factors - just ask.
