Yes: Claritin is a second generation antihistamine which causes much less drowsiness than first generation antihistamine, like benadryl (diphenhydramine). The number of people who feel drowsy on Claritin is so low that it is labeled "non-drowsy". But each of us is unique.  I have plenty of patients who feel drowsy on claritin, especially petite women.

Several: Loratadine and fexofenadine are non-drowsy but the drowsy ones are better in controlling itching induced by histamine.

Ice: Benadryl (or your choice of a non-sedating antihistamine such as Zyrtec, Claritin, or Allegra), ice, and ibuprofen is a good initial treatment for insect bites.     Infection is a possible delayed complication.   If you develop a boil, a discolored blister, fever, increasing pain, or other concerning signs, see a physician for an exam.

Yes: This is a common side effect of Zyrtec, but it is different for everyone. If Zyrtec makes you drowsy, you could try the other 2 common anti-histamines instead - Allegra or Claritin (loratadine). Some people have been drowsy with these medicines as well, but others have not. Best wishes.

Antihistamines: You can take claritin, (loratadine) or zyrtec, or allegra, or even bendryl with adderall.

currently 35 weeks pregnant,suffering with terrible rash as well as hives for the past 2 weeks. extremely itchy, don't get any sleep due to it. 
gp suggested allergex non drowsy once a day for 5days,only helps for 1hour. extremely worried.please help?

: I recommend consulting an allergist as the cause of recurrent hives can be quite elusive. The allergist should confer with your obstetrician and review diagnosis and discuss his/her treatment recommendations before prescribing any medications

Oxymoron: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is Benadryl (diphenhydramine)  which is often associated with drowsiness although not everyone is affected to the same extent.

Antihistamine: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is the first generation antihistamine that has anticholinergic property and crosses the blood-brain barrier causing drowsiness. Several other second generation antihistamine works well and does not cause drowsiness like zyrtec, allergra and claritin.
