Yes: Clenching is when you squeeze your teeth togehter  for an extended time.  This can cause muscle spasm which may cause discomfort when chewing. It can also over stress the ligaments that hold your teeth into the bone. When the ligaments get over stressed they will be sore when pressure is applied to the teeth.  It may also cause cracks in teeth that may cause some discomfort.

Perfectly Normal: As your teeth are starting to move, the bone starts to remodel and when pressure is placed on the bone, it hurts. You'll need to eat soft foods and possibly take pain medication to get you through the first few weeks. After that you should be fine. In the end, you'll have a terrific smile and you will realize that it was worth it !

Torgue: If you are still missing a tooth, you may be putting too much strain on the adjacent ones leading to the pain. 
Another issue with a missing tooth is that the adjacent ones would shift (usually forwards) thus changing the dynamics.  Contact your dentist if problem persists.
