i have diverticulitis and am currently on a low residue diet. is milk a low residue drink?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but...: Yes it is, but if you are lactose intolerant you should avoid milk.  A low residue diet contains a low amount of fiber.  Fiber causes gas production in the colon-- so does milk if you are lactose intolerant.

is it bad to share the same drink my mom takes her tamoxifen with for fear some residue will get inside me?

Accepted Answer

Not a risk: The amount of tamoxifen transferred by using the same drinking vessel is not likely to pose any health risk. However, it would be better to not share utensils for reasons of hygiene.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Question 3

17 weeks preg: served glass at restaurant with bleach/sanitizing residue on it (assume it hadn't dried). took one sip of drink. would it affect baby?

Accepted Answer

One sip...: One sip of something normally served at a restaurant won't affect anyone, unless the sipper is allergic to the drink. Sanitizing residue means the glass is likely a sanitary one. No worries.

hi on occasion for the past year i have had orange feels sandy , residue in toilet after urination
gritty like crystals, drinking water it goes away.happens usually when i'm nice t drinking a lot. i'm 32 scared it's cancer..don't see blood?

Crystals.: This is most certainly not cancer, but could be crystals related to concentrated urine due to dehydration.  Left unchecked this may lead to formation of large crystals which we call kidney stones.  They can be very painful.  You should see someone to have  a urinalysis to check.

does rinsing your mouth with water immediately after drinking soda pop clean all its sugar residue off the teeth ?

Accepted Answer

Yes, except: If your teeth have unremoved bacterial plaque (for example, not flossing to remove bacteria between teeth) the sugars in the soda can "feed" the bacteria, causing the sugars to be converted into acids.  So you can't skip cleaning steps and expect simply rinsing with water to be a cure-all.

what is the safest way to treat constipation while following a low residue diet for 6 weeks post-diverticulitis? already drinking 80oz of water, and eating less than 6g of fiber/1300cal, daily?

Accepted Answer

: If you have little or no urge for BMs, try taking a gentle bowel stimulant like senokotS daily according to the instructions. Avoid laxatives if possible. Ask your physician, surgeon or gastroenterologist if you can take metamucil daily to provide fiber without stirring up diverticulitis. Regular exercise can help.

Accepted Answer

Depends: While a little a day (a glass of wine or a beer or one shot of liquor) may be okay or even healthy, repeated binges of 5 or more  a day, more than a few times a month or regular use of 2 or 3 or more per day can have negative health and psychiatric consequences.  Everyone is a little different, and whether it is ok or not may depend on medicines one takes or how it affects you.

is it ok to drink while on doxycyclene?

Accepted Answer

Not a good idea.: You are taking an antibiotic because you have an infection.  Your body needs to do its best to fight the infection. Do not interfere with that by drinking alcohol, a liver toxin. Also, doxycycline can easily upset your stomach, if you are not careful, and alcohol may make that happen sooner. Hold off drinking till you are well.

In moderation there : Can be benefits. Flavonoids can help to v risk for strokes, heart attacks, & hypertension. Hdl, (good cholesterol) can ^ and LDL (bad cholesterol)  can v. However, if not in moderation, alcohol use can be very destructive.

Thanks for asking!: Don't do this.  Alcohol with a sedative in any class is dangerous.
