why couldn't my baby heartbeat be found on a doppler at 9 weeks and 4 days? now i'm very scared and nervous waiting on my ultrasound appointment which is in a week.

Heartbeat on doppler: In most cases, everything is ok. It may be that the lie of the fetus is so that it's hard to detect its heartbeat with a doppler machine. It's not that uncommon not to hear heart beat with a doppler machine at this gestational age. I agree things like miscarriage happen, but again in most cases, it's ok.

can i be sure an ultrasound will detect my baby's heartbeat?

Yes: Although it depends on the gestational age and the type of ultrasound (abdominal v vaginal), an ultrasound should be able to identify a heartbeat early in the pregnancy.  If the fetal length is greater than 5mm, a heartbeat should be identifiable on transvaginal sonography.  If the fetus is too small to identify the heartbeat, a repeat sonogram should be scheduled in 1-2 weeks.

Maybe: Fetal heart activity is very difficult to detect before 6-6.5 wks. If you have not had any bleeding it is likely a heartbeat will be detectable. Good luck.

Genetic abnormality: You had an early fetal demise. This is fairly common and most often its a chromosomal (gene) abnormality during early development that is responsible.

Depends: If they saw an embryo and it measured greater than 5 mm and there was no heart beat, then that is not good, otherwise might be too early or dates are off slightly.

Early: Depends how the ultrasound is performed (through the vagina, or through the abdomen).  Through the vagina, you can possibly see it by 4 weeks, but must see it by 7-8 weeks.

Yes: This is within the normal range for this stage, which is about 100-120 bpm.

Very rarely: The soonest a heartbeat can be reliably detected is at 6 weeks ega, so that would be 28 days after a certain conception. Very occasionally, a heartbeat can be seen in the 5th week (22-27 days), but it's really unusual and you shouldn't count on it.

strong heartbeat heard and seen at 10 weeks, but the technician noted no sac?  it was on my 8 week ultrasound.  is this normal?  they didn't comment?

Yolk Sac?: If you mean the yolk sac, this structure regresses normally and is not visible by 10 wks. If the sac of fluid surrounding the fetus was no longer present then this would be a very serious finding indication premature rupture of the sac or problems with the fetal kidney system. Which do you mean?
