Tinea versicolor: Yes....Tinea versicolor can be treated with Nizoral (ketoconazole)shampoo. This is available over the counter. Rub the shampoo on your body everyday in the shower.  You can tell that it is gone if no new spots come. Any discoloration of your skin will fade after a few seasons. See your doctor if it is recurrent.

Yes: Follow OTC directions on box or a doctors prescriptions for best outcome. You can always do your own thing with OTC pharmacy meds. They are safe to use. The pharmacist can guide you if you get stuck.

It's possible: I like for people to alternate therapies- letting them sit on the skin for 5 minutes or so in order to allow the medicated wash to take effect.  Some over the counter remedies include selsun shampoo and ketoconazole.  Oral medications can be used, but there is a risk of liver damage with those.

Yes: Yes, the 2% cream can be used twice a day for 2 weeks to treat Tinea versicolor. You should see your physician, however, before using, as tinea versicolor could be confused with other things, such as dermatitis or vitiligo, which would not be treated with an antifungal. Best wishes.

Ketoconazole : Ketoconazole is a prescription medication used by many dermatologists for tinea versicolor.  It is can lead to decreased steroidogenesis and testosterone production, but a few pills twice a year should have minimal effect on those processes.  It should only be used under the guidance of a dermatologist or other capable physician and can be quite effective for tinea versicolor in many cases.  I hope that helps.
