Sodium nitrite is used in meat industry to prevent bacterial growth & to maintain the meat's red color (≥ 22mg/kg body weight is toxic); cooking at high heat allows nitrites to combine with Amino Acids to form nitros-amines (carcinogens). It can be converted by many pathways to nitric oxide, a potent vaso-dilator.Amyl nitrite can be used in heart ds.

Vice versa also indicates UTI and if alone nitrite is pos  it is still a strong predictor of uti. In all circumstances clinical signs and symptoms are imp.

Depends: I am experienced with drug tests in an ER setting and no I have never seen a panel that tries to pick up for amyl nitrite. So in twenty years I would say no, but I do not know where you are getting tested at, and that makes a difference. I can send off for more extensive testing and those tests will check for the compound.

Different food: additives. MSG =mono sodium glutamate, it is usually uses as a flavor enhancer, in Chinese  foods. Nitrites are added as food preservative. Some foods are naturally high in nitrites, e.g. celery, so when the label says no nitrite added, it may still have nitrite in the form of celery juice.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
