It is believed they are polygenetic, with multiple genes interacting resulting in some degree of vulnerability or resistance to the condition. The best thing to do is to seek an evaluation from a board certified psychiatrist and to stay on the medication as prescribed.

Medical evaluation and psychiatric and/or psychological evals w.B. Wise before jumping to conclusions.

Eventually the person shows withdrawal, strange thinking, inappropriate emotions, perhaps hears voices, and loses much of their previous ability to function as an adult; they can be a danger to self or others.
