Development: Many nicus have developmental follow up clinics to evaluate progress and needs after going home from the nicu and the children are prescribed physical, occupational, and speech therapy as is warranted. The therapy occurs on developmentally appropriate levels which is often through play therapy.

is noise a hazard for newborn? we usually leave the door to nursery room open, so noise like running water, washer, cooking can all go to nursery room. the baby boy is not woke up but not sure if the noise could still hurt his development?

These are not: drastic or particularly loud noises. So, if he continues to be able to sleep soundly - don't see that as harmful to his development. Take care.

my 7mo ds cuzen act like a newborn, he doesn't develop almost anything yet. he can't sit. doc said he maybe half-blind. does that slow his development?

Many factors: A infant's development can be slow for many reasons. If he was born premature or had problems at birth, his development may be delayed.  Vision problems can occur with or without other problems of development. If the parents have other concerns, a pediatrician who specializes in behavior and development could examine the baby and discuss options with the parents.

NICUs and developmen: The noisy and painful experiences in nicus of the past appeared to affect babies development. Added to that, the lack of parental contact has been shown to be detrimental. Modern, progressive nicus encourage parents to participate in their baby's care or provide surrogates (cuddlers). They cluster care to minimize interruption of babies' natural cycles. They decrease noise and other stimuli.

This is not unusual: but discuss your concerns with her usual health care provider the next time she goes in for an evaluation.

More information nee: Infant my have increased bilirubin (jaundice) or may also have infection and anemia.  Infant may also be normal.  Check with baby's physician!

This is: indication of ANTIBODIES to HSV 2 IgG more than likely due to MATERNAL immunity!!! NO RISK for you! BTW MY OPINION ONLY you should REPORT this exposure to your Infection Control Nurse....(as with ANY exposure)

Never noticed..but..: In decades as a pediatrician I never noticed or had the idea come up. However, it is a good idea that young infants eyes are NEVER exposed to direct sunlight. They should be covered,  get light indirectly or receive some passive sun before the sun is up or after it goes down.

Early Weight: Usually an average of 2/3-1oz a day.

They see at birth: Babies are born nearsighted by adult standards but can see clearly up to about 12 inches. They are not likely to show recognition or extended gaze until later, often glancing away when they have had their limit looking in one direction.
