Urine test?: Urine tests generally are positive for opioids 2 to 3 days after ingestion.  The Pee in a cup tests are less accurate.  If it is sent to the lab the 2 to 3 day rule applies.  However, there are metabolic products of these medications that may last a few days longer.  After15 days, it should not show any metabolic products.  I am concerned if the Vicodin was for a reasonable medical issue or not.

Trreat illness: Always try to treat the illness, then the pain will abate naturally.  Talk to your doctor about diet, alcohol, etc.

Ask, don't tell: I sense how worried you are that if it doesn't work as well, you'll suffer. But long term use of percocet can damage your liver and that is serious. Ask for help to feel confident about the new strategy and see if they agree to a trial evaluation only. It depends: Your question is somewhat vague. All medications when appropriately prescribed for its indication and taken as directed by a physician should not be a problem. Vicodin is hydrocodone and Acetaminophen and is indicated for moderate to severe pain. The issue is the misuse/abuse  of the medication. It has the potential for physical dependence, cause respiratory depression when taken in excess & death.
