Numberous: There are numerous causes of low(penia) lymphocytes and neutrophils.  If transient, likely a viral infection.  If persistent and/or severe may need a bone marrow biopsy. Listing 100's of causes is not useful. Just need evaluation to figure it out.

can a patient with congenital neutropenia survive long without a spleen if it has to be removed due to extreme enlargement?

Accepted Answer

: Usually yes. But each case is different, and the answer might depend a lot on the reason for your the enlarged spleen. This is something to discuss with your doctors, ideally both an infectious diseases specialist and a hematologist/oncologist; and perhaps a gastroenterologist, e.g. if he splenic enlargement is related to liver disease. is mild neutropenia, mild lymphopenia, overall moderate leukopenia anything to be worried about? if so which precautions should i be taking. thank you

Actual numbers: Would be helpful, but in the absence of mouth sores or recurrent infections one would not work up the neuts.  Lymphs also may just be "your normal."  a perusal of your meds would also be in order.

Long list: Bone marrow failure, overwhelming sepsis, leukemia, autoimmune disease, viral infections, side effect of drugs, especially chemotherapy are among the common causes. See this site for more info.

i've been running 100-101 fever for 4 days. now it's 99.5. am i fever-free & safe to visit chemo patient in isolated ward w/neutropenia and pneumonia?

Better not: You had infection. The chemo patient are at high risk of getting infection. Although you are fever free, you may still harbor the bacteria or virus that can transmit to the patient. If you can avoid close contact. Try it, otherwise have good isolation.

Yes it is possible: But this is a critical situation that needs proper care ( and some good luck). Sure it is possible, but there is always a chance for unexpected complications, and a failure of the patient to respond favorably. And if you believe in a deity, prayer can't hurt either.

congenital neutropenia patient since birth. had bone marrow biopsy 3mths ago normal but blood levels were disrupted due to neupogen use 2yrs ago stopped taking neupogen 1yr ago. rbc are normal but platelet are very low 114uk. could this be mds or aml?

: I believe that your bone marrow biopsy has ruled out MDS &amp; AML.  You don't mention what your wbc &amp; differential count is.  You appear to have idiopathic mild thrombocytopenia but a platelet count of 114,000 is sufficient to keep you out of harm's way with respect to clotting ability. Your hematologist is best to advise you.

does the covid vaccine respond well in patients with low wbc- low lymphocytes? neutrophil ct is stable i have congenital neutropenia. i received 2 pfizer vaccines and a booster. im still in fear my immune system is too low to respond to the vaccine?

: You should continue to take COvid precautions- wearing a mask and avoiding crowds etc. The vaccines boost your immune system and provide you protection so you did the right thing. Also stay in touch with your MD.

What is the question: If you have sinusitis it should be treated.  If things get worse you should see your ENT immediately.  If you know the predisposing causes (dental disease, allergy, trauma, etc.), avoid them as much as possible.

Accepted Answer

Basic care: You  may bruise easily and cuts may bleed longer, so avoid activities that can cause bruising (contact sports, for example) and take proper precautions with sharp objects. Make sure you let your dr./ dentist know about your low platelets, as heavy bleeding can occur after procedures. Heavy periods and nosebleeds can also occur.
