i am about to get my first shot of the gardasil vaccine today. are there any unusual side effects?

Rare side effect: There is a rare and unusual side effect that affects a few women - getting lightheaded and dizzy and occassional one that actually faints after the vaccine. Some docs actually want you to wait around in the office for 15 or 20 minutes after the shot to see if that happens. I just advise my patients not to drive or use machinery for an hour after the vaccine. But this is a very rare occurence.

Benefits of the vaccine far outweigh any side effects.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

i'm 20 without a spleen. should i get the hpv vaccine gardasil? i have been hearing about bad side effects and have read them as well? should i get?

Yes: Yes you should get the HPV vaccine, it could protect you from HPV infection

if i have taken the first gardisil shot and had no side effects is it possible that i won't have any with the second shot?

Accepted Answer

Sure: Over 85% of people have no side effects from the shot. And those odds of no reaction go up if you've had one already and done fine. Even if your arm gets a little achy, it's a whole lot better than genital warts or the procedures you have to undergo if you get cervical hpv and have to have treatment for that. Or oral/throat hpv treatment - ask michael douglas (it's not pleasant).

Thoughtful question: Gardasil was developed over &gt; 20 years of research to help prevent  infection with a virus that is known to cause cervical cancer. Blood samples from college clinics noted as much as 70% showing evidence of past infection, so it is not a rare event.If a person is never going to be exposed (have sex) either willingly or forced, it is not needed, if not, they do.Side effects are minimal.

Safe and effective: This vaccine is the result of more than two decades of research, testing and thorough review by the FDA.It is safe, or it would never be approved and accepted by the FDA and the doctors that spend their lives devoted to keeping you safe. There will always be naysayers, some of them docs, who chose to ignore the research and selectively bash anything new.

is it possible for tooth decay to  cause neurological side effects?

Not likely : Not unless the tooth decay has reached the pulp or living section of the tooth.  You would have what is better known as a tooth abscess at that point ...Depending whether it is acute or chronic may determine the level of pain which in turn could possibly lead to neurological side effects!  would certainly expedite the time one would seek professional help ....

how common are neurological&permanent effects of colcrys? i have carditis &other inflammations,doc prescribed,but reading about side-effects, yikes..

Relatively rare: I've seen Colchicine used many many times since I've practiced medicine. I feel Neurologic side effects are quite uncommon. Where possible use it for shorter periods of time, with occasional holidays to be safe.

does anyone take hyoscyamine (levsin) for ibs. if so, any neurologic side effects?

Yes.: This drug is a potent anticholineric drugs. Drowsiness and brain fog is not uncommon.  There are more modern treatments available.
