Physical therapy: But start with your neighborhood orthopedist and podiatrist. Support and stretching exercises very effective for plantar fasciitis as is cortisone. Important to evaluate and treat the rest of the issues as well.

i have had spasticity with full body muscle spasms(especially in feet) and stiffness for 6 weeks. along with light tingling and feeling of weakness in left hand. does this mean i have als? note: i've had two mri's and both came back normal?

my 5 mo son has ankle clonus and has been checked with a pediatric neurologist. normal ultrasound, neurologist wiggled his feet and couldnt elicit anything. no other signs of cp - i.e. no spasticity etc. but i can elicit it at home. should i worry?

I : I agree with dr. Jaffery.  Another consideration would be spinal cord irritation and a neurologic exam would be able to uncover that problem.

Before you visit the neurologist make sure to differentiate between "spasms", cramps, and restless legs.

Spasms respresent a painful and involuntary muscle contraction.  It can not be released voluntarily.

A muscle cramp is a sudden intermittent pain of a muscle that may involve involuntary contractions and can be associated with spasms.

Restless legs refers to an uneasiness and restlessness in the legs when at rest.  This most commonly occurs after going to bed but can be seen earlier in the evening (anticipation).

Cramps can also be associated with arthritic conditions and cold exposure.  I hope this helps.

Neuropathy?: Has your partner stopped drinking the alcohol? That is important. Has he been prescribed a medication to help with neurological pain?  Has he considered an option like acupuncture?

Relieve the pinch!: See a physiatrist to determine exactly what nerve is being pinched, and where/why it is being pinched.  With out altering mechanics or the problem, it is unlikely to get better.  Most cases are manageable with proper diagnosis/treatment.

Can not be done: Usually nerve damage in feet is irreversible unless this occurs acutely and the condition is reversible with treatment. If you have pain along with numbness then medications can help.
