Normal: The kit checks your lh level. When it rises you ovulate 1-2 days later. The lh surge only stays elevated fo4 24-36 hours so it is supposed to turn negative again.

i got positive opk this month & after 48 hours it was negative.my qus. is that if i take opk test next month will it be show negative after same time?

It may: do that each cycle, especially if your periods are mostly regular. The important thing is not how many days, but "when" it first turns positive. OPK does not tell you when you are fertile: it tells you when the signal (LH surge) for ovulation starts, that's when you need to be trying. Number of positive days is unimportant. Good luck.

Ovulation: If your ovulation kits are negative then this means you are not ovulating. If you are wanting to be pregnant you may need to see a doctor for help.

Sounds like it: If you had a positive ovulation test then it sounds like you are ovulating. After you get a positive test then you can stop testing for that menstrual cycle.

OPK: The accuracy of OPK varies - sadly, OPK are more reliable the more regular your cycles are , meaning the women who need them most get the least use out of them. Two "lh surges" is not physiologic, so it's either a bad test or you have a very unusual ovulation. I recommend instead once you get a positive there is no good reason to continue testing further, hope this helps.

today is cd 12. i took a clear blue digital opk and it was peak fertility. took a regular opk at 1pm and was negative. which one is correct?

Probably positive: It's hard to be sure, particularly without knowing more about your menses and history. In general, OPK is most reliable when done first thing in the morning on the first void (overnight urine). Later in the afternoon, the urine concentration of LH (the hormonal marker of ovulation) is diluted, dependent on fluid consumption and circadian rhythms in LH. The first test should be more accurate.

i have done the "eggwhite"  ovulation test and it seems like i am ovulating . i have done the opk test and its negative. can the opk test be wrong?

Timing: Egg white (clear and stretchy) cervical mucous indicates that estrogen levels are high. High estrogen is common as you are preparing for ovulation. If cycles are regular, 28 days, and cervical mucous appears around day 11-12, you probably will ovulate about day 13-14.  Cervical mucous can occur in women that do not ovulate at all, in pcos, or while on estrogen therapy.

Yes to ovulation: Ovulation is a series of events and not just a single point in time.  The initiating event is a sharp upward spike in LH levels (that's what the OPK measures).  It's okay if the signal is negative the following day.  The process has started and you have a chance to conceive.

Unclear: After you get a positive ovulation test you stop testing as the hormone that triggers ovulation will linger around. At age 18 it is not typical to be needing to take ovulation tests monthly. If you are trying to get pregnant and having trouble then more official ovulation testing can be done. If you are testing to prevent pregnancy then see an obgyn to discuss birth control options.

Regularity of cycle: OPK detects LH surge which occurs in several circumstances like periovulation. Temperature rises when progesterone rise. Both occur around ovulation. The best test for ovulation is cycle regularity. Most women with regular cycles ovulate 14 days prior to their menstrual period. This is a retrospective diagnosis. If a women is regular 28 days ovulation occurs day 14, if 30 days regular then day 16.
