Cricks are common: There are various forms of neck pain after sleep such as typical muscle spams and/or stiffness, sometimes called "cricks". There are other more serious causes.  Start with gentle multi-directional stretches, hot shower/heat, and massage.  Unless advised otherwise, try over the counter anti-inflammatories.  With severe or continued pain, or other associated symptoms, seek expert consultation!

Absolutely: Hunching causes stretch of trapezius muscle and erector spinae muscles all of which have attachments in the middle of the spine, neck and base of your skull. Constant strain like one occurring during poor posture can lead to pains in the neck and head.

Yes it can: Forward head posture (head is in front of shoulders) can put an undue stress on the neck vertebrae/ muscles/ligaments causing them to work overtime to carry the weight of the head. This can lead to painful neck conditions. Often with poor posture the shoulders are rounded forward which further aggravates the problem. Give your neck a break and keep your head above your shoulders.

Cold with Neck Pain: Myalgias (muscle pain from illness) often recover as the illness improves. Maintaining good hydration with water and electrolyte solutions (eg gatorade, pedialyte) can be helpful. Additionally gentle range of motion exercises can be helpful.  Check with you doctor if symptoms do not improve over time.

See below: There are several joints and intervertebral discs in the neck.  These can wear out over time leading to pain.  Degeneration of the joints or discs can cause neck pain, headaches, and/or shoulder pain.  This can also lead to muscle spasm which limits range of motion in the neck.  See your physician if these symptoms don't improve in 1-2 weeks or sooner if you also have headaches and/or fever.

Neck pain: The most common is neck strain from either tension, poor support, poor positioning or injury.  In your age group spondylosis or degenerative changes would be the next most-likely.  Some can be helped with physical therapy, ergonomic arrangement of workspace and some will require surgery to fix.  Start by seeing your pcp and get some basic xrays and and examination.  Rare causes are tumors and othe.

These exercises start very gently, and then are progressed by a certified pt based upon patient response. All patients are different, so the exact exercises differ as does the progress. Pilates is also excellent for the core (yoga and piyo other options) if you want non-medical option.
