Throat: A great number of patients present to the ENT with bumpiness of the back of the throat.  This photograph shows some bumpiness that is associated with lymphoid tissue in the back of the throat.  This type of finding can be associated with irritation from post nasal drip or allergies.  It can also be associated with viral illness and if persistent should see an ENT or PCP.

Ask Your Doctor!: You should ask your doctor for the reason, but my guess is this: we are all reluctant to expose anyone to ionizing radiation like x-rays, especially someone as young as you, and especially the neck or pelvis. So sometimes some info can be gained by looking via ultrasound first. Then, use x-rays/CT as the next or last resort if MRI (expensive) is not available. Really depends on what's being looked for.

Underlying pathology: If there is pathology in the neck causing a lump in the throat, then the adjacent muscles may react by going into spasm.  See a physician if your symptoms have been persistent.

No: If you can breathe without difficulty and are able to swallow without difficulty you are probably not going to have any problems. The swelling is probably secondary to some soft tissue swelling from your injury and should start getting better in the next day or so.

Doctor can examine: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, stomach reflux, etc... Usually, a person sees her doctor if the throat symptoms are bothersome, recurrent, or don't go away quickly. An adult with a "lump" sensation should have an in-person exam and follow-up.

Look inward: It could be any number of things, but if there are no abnormal medical findings and I were a gambling man, I'd bet on anxiety.  Next time, think back about what *immediately precedes* this sensation (whether an external event or internal thoughts and feelings) and see if you notice a connection.  Try *psychotherapy* (talk therapy aimed at understanding and insight), not just behavior therapy.

Explanation: Your symptoms with small red lumps on pharynx, even without sore throat, most likely related to pharyngitis or you can call it "cold" infection. Use Advil or Motrin 400 mg 3 times a day for 5-6 days, honey and hot tea with lemon and you should be fine.
