Not Serious: The "pop" you feel is generally your joints moving over each other. Similar to cracking your knuckles, this movement can make an audible sound. As long as this is not painful it is unlikely to be of any clinical significance.

Muscular contraction: migraine/headache are complex. May be due to stress, tension, anxiety, hormonal issues, neck arthritis or sleeping positions. You MUST be examined, evaluated, diagnosed and treated. I suggest using Aleve (naproxen) tablets if you are not allergic to this medication. I also recommend Bio-Freeze liniment for neck pain and muscular spasm, until you can be seen.

Nonspecific: Neck pain can be caused by many things, such as muscle sprain/strain, disc degeneration, herniated disc, etc.  In general terms, your treatment options include physical therapy/chiropractic, medications (i.E anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants), spinal injections, and (in appropriate cases) surgery.  If your pain does not improve over time, see a physician.

Early treatment options include a short course of nsaids (advil, aleve), gentle massage, moist heat, and focusing on posture.  If pain lasts greater than 2 weeks see your physician.

Could be several : There can be cervical or neck issues that can cause pain in that area such as disc, muscle or joint issues as well as ear or mastoid problems.  Problems related to the occipital nerves which are there can cause pain.  Tmj issues can cause pain there as well as vascular problems.  Tension can cause pain there as well.  Infections from head ; neck region can present as neck pain   get it evaluated.

Neck pain: It could be from several tissues. Any thing form the muscles to the discs in the spine can cause pain. How the pain started is important to know. Trauma can damage the small joints in the spine or the discs. Muscle spasms can occur from simply lying down in a wrong position to a whiplash type of injury. Additional symptoms would be important to know.

Stretching: Stretching and otc nsaids(motrin) are the first steps.  You can also try warm , moist heat.  If these do not help in a week or two, you need to seek counsel from a spinal specialist.
