Nasal strep: In kids and adults strep bacteria can cause a crusty infection around the nostrils (and just about anywhere else).  We call that infection 'impetigo', which may also have staph bacteria.  In infants strep almost never causes classical 'strep throat', but it can cause a lot of other infections, including nasopharyngitis, which is a foul-smelling, irritating pus drainage from the nostrils.

Specialists: I recommend that she be evaluated by both a specialist in infectious disease and follow-up with an otolaryngologist for the sinus problem. The specialist can reculture her and order appropriate blood tests to assess her infection fighting status. The MRSA is most likely colonizing her nasal passage rather than causing an active infection now and may or may not require treatment but the specialist

i have white spots on tonsils that seem to change for two days. went and got a rapid strep, negative. no fever and no severe sore throat just feeling of fullness in throat. post nasal drip as well. is this just a viral
infection?

White spots: Hello, the white spots in the back of your throat sound like tonsilliths. These are food particles that get stuck in the tonsil tissues. They harden and make your tonsils look like they are infected. Under these tonsil pimples is a cavity or crevice that may be inflamed and infected. Gargle with water after every meal. This helps to clear these white pimples. Also see your doctor.

Staph rather: More than strep, ask your doctor for bactroban nasal, if s/he thinks your son would benefit from. Often times it is staph colonization of the nasal vestibule that can cause this, if no improvement, see a dermatologist, good luck

URI: Upper Respiratory Tract Infection is what you have, can be due to strep infection or other bug, at any rate you need to see your doctor for Rx medications, meanwhile rest, salt water gargles, pain killers, and good luck

Not really: There are not specific stages to a strep infection.  Common symptoms of strep throat include throat pain, fever, body aches, headache, pain with swallowing, and swollen glands.  If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should go to your pcp for a rapid strep test.  There are also many viral infections that can cause similar symptoms, but strep throat should be ruled out by a provider.

Not commonly.: Your overall resistance to other binfections e.g. Bladder infections can be reduced if you have a strp infection elsewhere. Strp bladder infections are very uncommon unless you self catheterize intermittently or have an indwelling catheter.

See below: Since the flu is a virus the only thing that works is time a symptomatic relief of fever and body aches with tylenol, (acetaminophen) rest and hydration. Strep is a bacteria and often needs antibiotics to get rid of it.

Depends on situation: If there are group a strep germs at that or any location that you have direct contact with you can get an infection from it. If the skin of the feat is healthy, it would be an unusual location for that germ to hang out. It much prefers moist locations of the nose, mouth, throat and anus.

OB's follow protocol: The frequency of invasive group b strep disease has declined since the adoption of surveillance and treatment protocols by ob's & peds. Since gbs can come & go, most moms will be screened at 35-37 wks & receive abx during labor if positive, if status unknown she will be treated & babies are monitored & tested for a specific period after delivery. Discuss your  concerns with your ob.
