NO: Betamethasone is a corticosteroid that is used to treat nasal allergies.  It has no antibacterial properties and would have no effect on nasal staph. Aureus.  Mupirocin
 (bactroban) ointment is used for nasal decolonization.

Accepted Answer

Nothing special: The presence of staph on a nasal swab means only that you are carrying a strain in the lush mucoid environment where it can thrive. It doesn't do well on the dry skin surface for long periods of time. With it in your nose you could spread it to bug bits by scratching with contaminated fingers, or to door handles or other objects. Since most have no symptoms, nasal carriage allows it to spread.

Accepted Answer

Ok if needed: Bactroban (mupirocin) kills MRSA and is very good if you have issues of breathing or using this to kill mrsa. Do not use if u do not need this. For prevention of infection use just Normal Saline as a nebs or few drops to nostril to open up congested sinus.

4 to 5 times a day: Clean finger, apply 4 to 5 times a day. No qtips. Do it for at least a week or 4 days past complete lack of symptoms.

Staph colonization: Many normal people carry staph aureus in their nares and on the surface of the skin. When one develops many episodes of skin infection, often due to mrsa, one method of management is to attempt to eliminate the nasal carriage state by using Mupirocin topically, and frequently combined with washing the skin only with chlorhexidine-containing soap. This works about 50% of the time.

had deep nasal culture done and large amounts of coagulase negative staph found.  could this be causing my nasal turbinates to swell and be irritated?

Probably not: This is usually a normal bacteria in the nose and on the skin and probably not the cause of your nasal congestion etc. An allergy problem is more likely.

Staph in nose: Not an uncommon finding. Why was the culture done. If no obvious infection, antibiotics not likely needed.

swollen turbinates for last 6 months. dx vasomotor rhinitis. positive nasal swab for coag negative staph. could this be cause of vasomotor rhinitis?

Definitely not: A culture like that is essentially useless. Staph CN organisms in this setting are 'just along for the ride' and have nothing to do with your sinus disease. That might have been different if a true pathogen was found (like Strep) but I'm pretty sure this is just what we call 'normal flora'. The sinuses are not a sterile place, so there are ordinary bacteria there. I would seek more about ALLERGY.

Trouble with Staph: This bacterium is particularly hardy and may be persisting in your environment-if indeed you've tried a regimen to 'eradicate' it from your body. It may be worth throwing out old razors, personal hygiene items, etc or at least try to sterilize them in a dishwasher. Towels, used linens etc will need a 'hot wash' to disinfect. Then, consider personal contacts in the family for possible re-infection.

i have had a sore throat for 4 months, it hurts more some days than others, red throat, post nasal drip, heartburn, white coated tongue, golden staph+?

No staph: with coated tongue and sore throat it appears thrush caused by candida. Ask you PCP if Mycelex (clotrimazole) Troches are the right choice for you
