this is sami, your patient in isotretinoin - second month. i used nair to remove hair in my hands and legs and got some red rashes and breaks, in my hands. any medicine/lotion i can apply to cure this skin break and rashes?

Emollient: Isotretinoin causes dry skin. After a shower rub in a ceramide cream such as Eucerin Eczema or Aveeno (oatmeal) Eczema.

Yes: The use of topical agents with limited skin penetration is not harmful during pregnancy.

Waxing: Rash and redness due to trauma (like waxing) is pretty hard to get rid of in just one day. It could take up to a few days before it completely goes away. You can try some very mild otc hydrocortisone, but know there's a small chance it could irritate it more.  You can also try some cool packs to the area.

It seems..: It seems your skin is sensitive to this product. I would try an alternative to this one. If not better or rash gets worse please consult your doctor for a formal exam, diagnosis and treatment.

Laser hair removal: Laser hair removal is the most effective method to remove facial or body hair. Electrolysis can be used for smaller regions but is less reliable and technique dependent than lasers. Lasers are very safe if performed by a skilled and experienced physician or provider. Vaniqa cream also helps reduce hair growth by 40% but effects wear off after discontinuing use. Laser effects are long-lasting.

Maybe: Depilatory agents like Nair can work for some, but the chemicals involved will cause skin redness or allergic reactions in some.Before attempting a large area, test it in a small area  and wait a day to see what happends. Waxing ,though painful, is less likely to produce allergic reactions.

Cautiously: Since nair is primarily external and is not absorbed in the skin it is likely safe. That being said skin changes are common during pregnancy and creams, lotions, deodorants, etc that were well tolerated before can sometimes cause unexpected rashes before.  Nair can be very irritating to skin for many, so use caution.  Also avoid using it in the genital region.

Not a bad idea. : There are many other ways to remove hair.  If you have very sensitive skin this might not be the best for you.

Accepted Answer

Use some topical Preparation H.: The medication is good for hemorrhoids but it is also good for Burns and other open wounds although the company does not market it for that. Essentially with the Nair you have ended up with a chemical burn.
