Accepted Answer

You should be fine!: Most infections are spread by hand to mouth contact or by aerosol when someone sneezes into the air.  You have gone a step further by using sanitizer.  Just remember to wash hands before cooking or eating handling your infant.

Spitting: Try using the. Bulb syenite given to you andsuck out the mucous from the child's mouth.

Probably normal: Many newborns have difficulty retaining milk due to a poorly functioning sphincter muscle where the esophagus and stomach meet. The stomach normally has mucus and the sour smell comes from the acid and digestive juices in the stomach.  Make sure your baby is gaining weight and report to your doctor if he seems to be fussy or severely colicky - the spit up can cause heart burn.

Reply: Based on history it sounds like a recent problem, now question is does he actually choke while feeding or makes choking noises only. If he had a connection between his food pipe and breathing pipe then choking episodes may have started soon after birth, making choking noises can be because of floppy sound box muscles that gets better with age. Then comes reflux that is also common at his age.

Signs of Dehydration: Your newborn may have an infection and has lost fluid. She may be dehydrated, and I would advise seeing the acute care clinic.
Please do not give tylenol or motrin until you see the physician.

3week old has been on enfamil newborn and soy formulas. dr just switched him to nutramigen but he's just as gassy and spits up more often. any help?

Talk to your doctor: It can take about a week or so to find out if the new formula will work better for your baby. Gassiness and spitting up are usually related to how your baby feeds, more than the type of formula. Hold him upright as much as possible during feeds, and burp him frequently. Don't lie him down or put him in the carrier right after feeding. Talk with your doctor if he isn't doing better.

is the novalac range to strong for my newborns stomach? he's been spitting up small amounts after feeding sometimes and then he's vomited up his formula twice in the space of a week.  he acts like he's starving every 2 to 3 hours so i feed him.

Normal: Newborns commonly feed at 2-3 hour intervals. A little spitting up after feeds can be minimized by slowing the rate at which you feed him. Feed one ounce, then stop and holding him upright put him over your shoulder and burp him well. repeat this until finishesd. Keep him upright after feeding for at least 30 minutes to prevent vomiting or large spit ups. Your Dr may suggest changing formula.

Slow down feedings: He may be drinking tooquickly. It should take 20-30 minutes to feed him.In between he should be burped frequently.

Likely reflux: Most likely your newborn is experiencing gastroesophogeal reflux, a common condition in babies.  Try keeping baby elevated (head up), during feedings and for 20 minutes or so after feedings.  Be sure not to overfeed.  There is a possibility that there may be a lactose or protein intolerance, as well.  Try limiting your dairy intake.  If these things don't help, please contact your pediatrician!
