Accepted Answer

: Guillain-Barre Syndrome can last several weeks usually and does not  "resolve" with i.v. fluids.  A modest drop in sodium as listed would not be expected to cause such severe symptoms, but glad you had a reversal with fluids, suggesting dehydration. low aldosterone, normal renin. sodium 141(135-145), potassium 3.4(3.5-5.0) confused, shouldnt sodium be lower if low aldosterone and potassium higher?

Sodium is difficult: Sodium regulation is complex and not directly related to any single hormone. Mineralocorticoids like Fludrocortisone can increase sodium a bit and do cause sodium retention of sodium, but the sodium level is mostly regulated by a hormone called adh (vasopressin).

i know it's not good. drink diet pop all day. but y would my labs show low sodium (129) low bun/creatine ratio? i drink lot of sodium?? neuro confused

Accepted Answer

Confusing : Hard to say. Unless you are drinking excessive amounts of soda and water it shouldn't drop your sodium. Your nephrologist should be able to determine the source of the low sodium.

Confusion can never : Be normal, and need evaluation and treatment , talk with her physician and see what he tells u.

See doctor: If Inderal (propranolol) is causing the confusion, she needs a change in medication and not just the formulation of the same.  Talk to her doctor about it.

Need more info: Why was she in the er (please don't use ed; that stands for erectile dysfunction to most doctors)? Why was she given morphine for a headache? Does she have a history of migraines? What other medical problems does she have? What other meds/supplements does she take? We need all this info to give an intelligent response. Morphine can cause confusion; so can many other drugs.

COVID 19:  She needs to be seen at emergency room now if confused with low O2. Hospital can advise about home oxygen. Get emergency care for difficulty breathing, blue lips or face, significant &amp; persistent chest pain or new-onset of confusion.
