Nevus: The only way to properly remove a mole (nevus) is with a scapel.  See your doctor.

Not neccessarily: A redness around a mole indicates inflammation that could be from irritation. However, in some cases , the inflammation represents an immune response as the mole could be atypical. Either way , please see your dermatologist.

Need more info: All depends on how the mole was removed and was it sent for microscopic examination? Did the doctor do a punch biopsy or cut it out with a scalpel and then suture it closed? The red ring could be indication of beginning infection. Please get back to the doctor who took the mole off and ask him/her the answers to the questions I just posed.

Dermatologist: Most moles/nevi are benign in younger people. Nevi in younger adults/adolescents tend to be more benign (congenital or spitz Nevis). If the mole is in a sun exposed region and is A (asymmetric), B (has irregular borders), C (changes color over time) and D (is greater than 1 cm), than it is more worrisome for melanoma. You are young and if you are worried, reassurance from a dermatologist may help.
