Not directly: Aspartame is an Amino Acid and cannot directly raise blood sugar.  But, it may increase cravings for other sweets or starchy foods, and if someone eats more carbohydrates than they planned to, that could lead to higher sugar levels.

Zero sugar, no risk: Aspartame is one of the most common sugar substitutes. It is zero sugar and has none of the physiologic effects of sugar like contribution to weight gain and diabetes risk. (I don't know any other "negative side effects" of sugar.) You can find online comments that suggest that aspartame has its own health risks, but most experts consider those urban myths and believe aspartame is entirely safe.

Safe: Sugar-free soda such as cola light does not increase glucose levels in diabetics.  There are no studies that show any significant detrimental effect of these sodas in diabetics.  It is certainly better than drinking regular sodas, though water, unsweetened tea, club soda, and coffee are probably better choices.

drink water! forget about the additives. If you can not stomach plain water, then ok but otherwise water, water, water, water!

No: While people who ingest a lot of artificial sweeteners do often report fatigue and achiness, it's unlikely that you could take in enough to truly "poison" yourself with the stuff.  That being said, it's always better to keep it natural and just limit the amount of natural sugar you ingest.

my father had random glucose level of 135 two days back, today it was 189 after 1 hour of taking tea with 1 spoon of sugar along with some sugar free biscuits. he is non diabetic as a month ago his fasting was 99. should i worry?

Worth a study: I would have him arrange to see his doc &amp; do a A1C study, which reflects blood sugar variation over a 3 month period. He may be a type 2 diabetic that  glucose levels done at random did not clearly reveal earlier.

Any diabetes: Web site or cook book. Remember, it's not sugar but total calories that's the problem. Some items are "sugar free", but still high in calories and should be limited or avoided entirely.

No: These drinks don't do anything to "cleanse" your body.

Sugar alcohols: Sugar free candies and chocolates are often sweetened with maltitol or sorbitol. They are not calorie-free and the chocolates still contain fat the same way that regular chocolates do. Eating sugar alcohol-sweetened anything can potentially cause abdominal cramps, flatulence, diarrhea.
