i went into anaphylaxis shock three weeks ago every time i try to eat i break of in hives how long does this last ?

Anaphylaxis: After an episode of anaphylaxis, you definitely  must see an allergy specialist. You sound as if you may have a food allergy, in which case you will continue having reactions as long as you continue to eat the food causing problems . Usually it is only one main food, or a couple, that are to blame. If you had anaphylaxis once, you can have it again! get an Epipen (epinephrine) and see an allergist soon.

i have had issues with my digestive tract for over a year now. in the last three weeks i have broken out in hives and the gut problems have gotten worse. after 3 consultations and various medication, nothing has been effective.

Just a thought: You are describing what pretty much sounds "classical" for GI mediated (?food etc) allergy. This allergy can be triggered not just by offending foods but some SPICES and PRESERVATIVES... an "elimination " diet program may be worthwhile. I assume you have  had an immunology/allergy consultation...check this out.

All of the above: The codeine and the antibiotic could be causative as well as the underlying illness that is being treated-mycoplasma or virus.

Off and on: In the vast majority of cases they disappear within a few days or weeks. During that time it will come and go and move around the body. Each hive should appear and disappear rapidly (less than 24 hours). If the hive-like rash is fixed and doesn't move around or leaves scars, it's not typical hives and should be examined by a doctor. A few people will have hives for a very long time, up to years.

How long hives last: It depends on what is causing them. If it is a food/medication, they usually stop after allergen is out of your system, 1-2 wks. There is many different causes of hives. People who have autoimmune urticaria (hives) can have it for a lifetime. Usually if hives last for more than 6 weeks, they are considered chronic and a workup is done to determine cause. Unfortunately cause is not always found.

Hives can become chronic if last more than 6 weeks. Common viral/bacterial infections can trigger an outbreak, however medications, foods, and stings can also cause acute hives but have the potential to lead to more serious complications. Depends on cause: Most commonly hives are short lived, but sometimes hives can last a long time and be resistant to treatment. There is an entity called cholinergic urticaria, which are hives from stress, emotional states, heat, and sometimes unknown causes. That can be very tough to treat sometimes and keeps reoccurring. Talk to your doctor, maybe an allergist, if your having hives for a long time.

None: For hives, oral antihistamine up to 4 x daily would be more effective.  Some times the hives may be so severe that you will need to see your doctor.

Uncertain: When hives appear "out of nowhere", it's a challenge to figure out the cause.  OTC &amp; Rx medications are s0metimes the culprit.  Regardless of the cause, it's wise to take an anti-histamine to control the itching and prevent worsening.  If you ever get swelling of your lips, mouth or throat or you notice wheezing, seek IMMEDIATE medical care.  Consider seeing an allergist for skin testing.

took ferroussulfate last june for a week develop hives. after noticing i stopped it. and now still suffering with come and go hives. what could dis be?

Multiple...: There are multiple possible agents that can cause allergy symptoms. Maybe iron was one of them but perhaps there are others that might be triggering symptoms. My best advice i to see a specialist in Allergy and Immunology for testing and treatment.
