Strain: You could have pulled the muscles and tendons on that side (abductor carpi). I would rest as much as possible, take some anti-inflammatories such as advil/ibuprofen first (with food) and if does not improve in few days see a doc.

i've taken three dosages of bactrum ds can i still end up having serum sickness? my left hand hurts right on the top. for no apparent reason. that's why i was wondering

Not necessarily: The symptom you have is irrelevant, serum sickness is  still a rare disease, the most common drug causing it, is penicillin still, it can take days up to 3 weeks to develop, earlier if you had it before with the same drug. If in doubt, call your doctor, stop the drug if any suspicion of a likely symptom of a reaction/ allergy, good luck

Unlikely: Classical pain of the heart attack is pain of the left chest radiating to the inside of the left shoulder and upper arm but not to the hand
There might be other causes of the pain and I would suggest to get it checked by the doctor to assess and manage accordingly

Sounds evoke : Different emotions. Perhaps this evokes a memory of a physical state or just adds enough static to your your system that other seemingly unrelated items affect your hand. But a baby crying can be a powerful sound.   And there are studies where sound provokes hand pain used in  an experimental sense to measure sounds. Our cerebral wiring is complex. .. Speak to a neurologist it these things continu.

Tendonitis vs joint: It could be a tendonitis versus just irritation in the joint.  There could also be a small cyst that can form.  Give it 7 - 10 days and if not better see a physician.

See below: It maybe tendonitis or some type of inflammatory arthritis.  The only way to know for certain is to see you primary care provider for an evaluation.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining the hand. Was there any trauma to the hand? Is there a swelling, redness or other visible abnormality? If there is no visible abnormality try tylenol (acetaminophen) and if the pain does not go away in a couple of days or gets worse, see your doctor.
