Some inflammation?: Facial sensations of burning and itching may be from some inflammation/irritations. A person with such symptoms may benefit from Hydrocortisone 1% cream twice a day for a week. Meanwhile, she can make an appointment with her primary care doctor or a dermatologist to have her face looked at. Sometimes, certain ingredients in foods, plants, cosmetics, soaps, etc... Can cause such symptoms.

See a dermatologist: This is not caused by shampoo a month ago. When you go, bring all soaps, shampoos. Vitamins, supplements, meds. Laundry detergent is not relavent.

Get seen : Best to get the rash seen by a physician and get started on the right medication.  You want to make sure you are taking the right medication for the problem.  Might be acne or herpes or a bacterial infection or even an allergic type reaction.  Has already been bothering you for long enough.   Could try Cetaphil non soap cleanser until seen.

Rosacea?: This may be from rosacea which is triggered by increase in core body temperature but also alcohol, spicy or hot foods etc.   Consult your doctor re. treatment since this will be a long standing condition.

I : I agree you should see a dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment options.  Most likely it is seborrheic dermatitis, but any of the conditions listed by dr. Christenson are possible. Read for about seborrheic dermatitis below. I hope that helps.

Common side effect: Both benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin are peeling agents. They come in different concentrations (%) and different bases (cream, lotion, gel). If it burns ask your doc to lower the strength and you spread out the time between applications to every other day or every third day. Good luck.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Take multivitamins, just on case.

Uniterpretable: Progressive hyperpigmentation of the skin should be thoroughly examined. There could be localized infections  like rosacea or hormonal problems. Discuss it with your pcp or a dermatologist.
