Chest  pain mucus: Chest mucus can result from an infection, allergy or other types of inflammation.  There are several possible answers to your concern requiring an in-person evaluation.  When did you have the chest x-ray before or after the symptoms, have things gotten worse since the x-ray?

IT IS : a "Non-Specific" findings and are the impression of the Radiologist. This has to be combined with CLINICAL judgement and knowledge of the patient!

Many reasons: The pleura thicken for many reasons but most often due to infection or inflammation in the past.  That includes many forms of bacteria and virus.  The hyper aeration can be due to asthma such as that with allergies and even tobacco use amount others. It is best to talk to your doctor for more specific information

Cholesterol: You have atherosclrosis. Just focus on the risk reduction. Cholesterol and BP control. If you have diabetes make sure it is under control. Do not smoke.

Myocarditis: Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle. It can be suspected on the basis of ecg; elevated inflammatory markers (crp;esr);  detection of antibodies against pathogens known to cause myocarditis; elevation of cardiac enzymes (heart damage markers: troponin, ck). While the gold standard remains biopsy, cardiac MRI is a noninvasive test that can both diagnose myocarditis and guide the biopsy!

primary dr.did chest x-ray told me that he saw rheumatoligic inflammation. isn't something like that only show on ct scans. i am a patient with ra.

Yes, can see....: In Rheumatoid  arthritis even on a conventional chest x-ray you can see changes that have reported with rheumatoid arthritis.

These changes include nodules as well as changes suggesting past inflammation in the lungs which is sometimes called interstitial fibrosis.

The degree of these changes is better determined by CT.

It depends...: It depends on what you mean by "mold illness." molds (a form of fungus), can cause many different diseases with varying symptoms. Some of these can be seen on a chest x-ray, but many will not. In general, the more symptomatic a patient is from a pulmonary standpoint (cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, etc) the more likely any possible pulmonary fungal infection will show up. I hope this helps.

Further evaluation.: First is to compare with any prior chest xray as most findings present for at least two years without change are benign.

Otherwise either a followup chest xray or ct scan would be advised depending on what the initial finding looked like.  

Pneumonias can clear up on treatment, small nodules commonly are benign but can be due to cancer so followup with xray or ct is usually recommended.

can you have pneumonia and it not show on chest x-ray?

Accepted Answer

Yes: You could have a small or minor pneumonia or one in a hard place to see on chest x-ray but in general, if the x-ray is clear, you probably don't have it. Can always get a repeat in a few days if symptoms persist or worsen to see if a pneumonia becomes more apparent.

could reflux esophagitis show on chest x-ray?

No: Esophagitis is inflammation of the lining of the esophagus. It is not evident on a chest x-ray but may be seen on a barium swallow of the esophagus or, with greater sensitivity, endoscopy of the esophagus by a gastroenterologist.
