Study on 20-40 yo: Studies show there may be a 2 fold or so increase in risk of breast cancer in women who use depo provera (medroxyprogesterone) but the risk of breast cancer in young women also low. See this study please and talk with your MD. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3328650/

If you did better: on Depo provera, yes it could help. Many patients find it makes weight gain worse, by making them more insulin resistant/carb senstive. This may be the cause of your weight gain, testing and discussion with your doctor for best plan of treatment, is advised.

Take test: If you are concerned about pregnancy I suggest you check a blood pregnancy test 1 week after a missed period.

Maybe: In so far as a bad shoulder could lead to altered use of the pectoralis muscles under the breast, then this might be perceived as breast pain.  Go into your doctor for a breast exam.

Use training bra: Well fitting bra or training bra may relieve the pain .Try to find if it is spot painful or it is only discomfort.There are unexplained pain in breast.    Without any particular reason  .You may have to  use good supporting bra.If it does not  help, then goto see the doctor for breast examination.

Fibrocystic changes: This is very common.  You can try decreasing caffeine.  You can also try vitamin e or evening primrose oil tablets.  If it is unbearable, speak with you gyn about changing medications.

Hormone imbalance: the effects of the Depo-Provera can last months after the medicine is out of your system. it disturbs the normal hormone balance in your body.

Numbness : Pain that lead to numbness in the upper arm can be related to a neck problem from c4-6. It is unlikely that it explains the symptoms in the breast. A dermatome MAP can better illustrate this.  The sensory representation over the breast comes from upper thoracic spine. Search dermatome MAP online.

Could be pregnancy: Hi Julie. Symptoms sound like possible pregnancy.  I'd recommend a pregnancy test. If not pregnant, it may take a while for your menses to return (each woman is different).  Delayed return of fertility is a somewhat common problem with depo, but I have a number of patients who became pregnant on depo or soon after stopping the medication. I'd recommend starting a prenatal vitamin. Hope this helped

Multiple side: effect are possible: abnormal bleeding, cramping, weight gain, breast pain/fullness, acne and mood swings are common.
