so i'm curious...i'm a cancer survivor and my girlfriend possibly has cancer so i'm wondering if our kids will have a higher chance of getting cancer?

Genetics: You didn't mention what kind of cancer you had or your girlfriend may have...  Some types of cancer run in certain families, but most cancers are not clearly linked to the genes we inherit from our parents.  Good luck to your girlfriend, hoping that her scare is just that and not ultimately cancer.

can you tell me what to do if i found out my girlfriend has thyroid cancer and i need to ask some questions?

Surgery needed: Thyroid cancer for the most  part starts as a solitary nodule that is cold on scan.  Nodes should be palpated and if present incorporated in the thyroidectomy.  The younger the patient the better the chance for cure even if nodes are involved.  If lesion large and crosses isthmus a total thyroidectomy needed.  At times radioiodine necessary to ablate remaining thyroid tissue and eliminate cancer.

The doctors who are managing her care need to know the level of her pain so that they can manage it better. Ask her doctors to bring a Pain Management doc to the team. HPV: Why you are so sure that she got it from somebody else. She could have gotten the hpv  from you as well. The hpv can be contracted via different routes- sure, it could be via sexual intimacy/intercourse, but also can be contracted through passionate kissings/exchanging body fluids/saliva, . Majority of hpv infection will resolve if you have a good immune system.

my son's girlfriend has pancreatic cancer..she has just been out of hospital about 4 days..and her feet are so swollen..that she can't hardly move them.. what do we need to do.. please help..she is only 29 yrs.old.?

Brain tumor: The first step is to get established with a neuro-oncologist who takes care of people with grade III Astrocytomas (anaplastic type). Today there are good chemotherapy regimens that are very effective. Radiation therapy is also an adjunct to chemotherapy. Brain surgery is performed if reduction in the size of the tumor is required. Your role is to be supportive, reassuring, and keep her organized.

Depends...: On many factors including the stage of the cancer and other prognostic features about the tumor like it's grade (1-3), if the er/pr markers are + or -, if the her2neu is + or -, if the ki-67 is high or low, and how good her general health is otherwise.  Depends also on if she follows through with all recommended treatments or not.

Good: Breast cancer has high cure rates when it is detected early and it is treated properly. Her outlook will depend on the stage of her breast cancer. Check this out as most women have stage 1 or 2 breast cancer which has excellent long term results.

Accepted Answer

Yes: I'm hoping this is a curable cancer or premalignant lesion ('intraepithelial neoplasia', 'carcinoma in situ', etc.) and that by the time you are reading this, it's been treated for probable cure. Oral sex is great for a relationship and the hpv virus that caused the cancer is no reason not to enjoy your time together. Most important is you both educate yourselves about exactly what's happening.

does my girlfriend having hpv mean i might get oral cancer?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Her hpv has to transmit to your mouth first, through whatever the route; then the types of hpv have to be hpv 16 or 18; then you have to develop hpv-infected lesions inside your mouth; then maybe 1.5 years later, you have a peculair lesion/mass; then may be it's a cancer(or maybe not).
Anyway, you have to have all those factors collectively happen to you then you have a chance.
