Accepted Answer

No: There are multiple medications we use for muscle spasticity to varying degrees of help including flexeril, zanaflex, soma, baclofen, Valium, and skelaxin (metaxalone) just to name a few.  Discuss directly with your doctor what would be best for you.

i started having a muscle spasm on my face. it is my cheek area near my nose. it has now been over 24 hours and it hasn't stopped. it is visible?

Spasm: This irritability of a superficial nerve in the face may be due to deficiencies of calcium, magnesium or may be seen with caffeine intake. It'll probably subside on its own. Avoid caffeine and you could try taking some magnesium oxide(400 mgs). If symptoms persist or other muscle irritability occurs, see your physician or a neurologist for diagnosis and treatment.

okay so i got this red inflamed bump near the crack of my left butt cheek & it so painful what could this be ? it's causing muscle spasms in my butt

Probably cyst : Probably a cyst or abscess.  Either of which might cause some muscle spasm/cramping if it is deep enough.  See your medical provider to determine the best treatment.

Hemifacial spasm : Hemifacial spasm is contraction of one side of the face.  It can be due to irritation of the facial nerve due to a blood vessel but can also be due to other central nerve system disorders.  It is treated with Botox injections or sometimes surgery.

See your doctor: Problems like these can only be correctly handled by your doctor in person.  He/she needs to listen to you, perform an examination and possibly run labs or other tests. That's the only way he/she can find out what's going on and what to do about it.

i have had spasticity with full body muscle spasms(especially in feet) and stiffness for 6 weeks. along with light tingling and feeling of weakness in left hand. does this mean i have als? note: i've had two mri's and both came back normal?

: ALS needs a good clinical as well as lab work in addition NRI.  It could be something else too. Pl see a good neurologist. Wish you well

Muscle spasms: Usually a muscle spasm happens around the spine when it tries to "stabilize" the spine during a strain. When you strain it during sleep in a bad position or when you turn abruptly the wrong way, the spasm lasts long after the uncomfortable event is done. In order for it to go away, spine needs to be realigned, and the muscles need to relax. Sometimes heat helps that or muscle relaxants or yoga etc.

Tension : You might have tension, headache, anxiety. That may explain why your anxiety medicine helps. When in doubt see your doctor.

Hard to say: This could be coming from the back of your neck. The cervical muscles attach to the base of your skull so this may be the source of the spasms.

Yes it is possible: Yes, there are muscles on your face and head and they can go into spasm much like any other muscle. It is less common than other areas of the body such as the back, but it is possible. Insufficient hydration is a cause of muscle spasms. See you pcp if the spasm is not going away. Hope that helps!
