TMJ/Muscle Problems: You may also have a TMJ or muscle dysfunction problem that is getting worse.  There are times that a bionator (one type of function orthopedic appliance) may be of great help especially when using for sleeping as well as when you can during the day.  This tends to retrain  and heal the muscles to help them function normally.  Find a dentist that is familiar with TMJ & use of a bionator.

can chronic neck pain refer pain to the face?  i have bilateral face pain and it eases with neck massage! i have tight muscles on neck and face.

Yes it can: especially if that neck pain comes from nerve pain (neuropathy) and not muscle pain (myopathy).  If your neck muscles are rigid and taut all the time, then the pain is most likely myopathic and will require a combination of anti-inflammatory medicines, muscle relaxant medicines, and manipulation/masssage.  Heat application also helps.  If it is neuropathic pain, then you need xrays of neck.

Could be..: If the shingles rash was on your face, you can have pain and burning before the rash appears and after the rash disappears... Sometimes for weeks to months afterwards.  If you were treated early with antiviral medications, it makes it less likely that you will have lingering pain.

Yes: Facial pain could be related to a number of different problems ranging from dental issues to nerve pain as in trigeminal neuralgia.  Tegretol has been used for management of nerve pain disorders including trigeminal neuralgia. This is an older way of treating neuropathic pain, and these days we have better medications.  Tegretol has a number of side effects which have made its use less common.

Trigeminal Neuralgia: Tegretol is used to treat a specific type of face pain known as trigeminal neuralgia. Tn is a nerve disorder that causes a stabbing or electric-shock-like pain in parts of the face often brought on by a trigger.  Triggers can be almost anything from brushing your teeth to light dental work.  Tegretol is normally used to treat seizures by blocking pain signals in the brain.

Not really.: There is little evidence that Trazodone helps in facial neuralgia. Other antidepressants have also been used such as Amitriptyline, Nortriptyline and Vivactil (protriptyline) with varying success. Other drugs such as anticonvulsants have been used such as Tergretol.
