Boils: Boils are caused by staph and strep bacteria.
If the skin is not disinfected well, they often recur. There is a bleach bath (yes, as in clorox) that can be done to disinfect the skin. Call your physician for the right dose.

NO: This is a logical regimen to prevent MRSA ( methicillin resistant staph aureus)

NO: No harm. No help. If you have a boil, try hot soaks. When it drains, spontaneously or surgically, it will heal.

i visited a doctor and was prescribed paracetamol , antibiotic and mupirocin oitment. will it help in curing boil? is there anything else i can do? it pains and at times very hard!

Heat and drain maybe: Frequently a boil might need to be drained with a simple incision. Antibiotics will not penetrate the area of puss collection well. It looks like this was not your case at the time. Possibly the treatment you have now will take care of it. Also applying warm compress over it may help it also. There are other"home remedies"described"out there' but none that for sure work as far as I know.

Viral infection: Having croupy cough and low grade fever indicates that you have viral infection. Two boils on scraped knee  2 weeks back may be healing by now  and  not causing any fever .Anyhow if it bothers you ,better talk to your doctor .

Bactroban (mupirocin) works well: on MRSA often, but in some cases oral antibiotics are necessary and or drainage. If not better in 48 hours call for oral meds, culture and possible drainage.

Mastitis in a baby?: Make warm compresses with a clean wet warm washcloth over the area wrapped in Saran wrap for now to increase blood flow, encourage healing, and drainage of any boil or abscess. Please follow up with her pediatrician tomorrow. If it enlarges, becomes more painful, your child has a high fever or becomes lethargic, ER.
