Yes: Rib fractures occur from a blow to the chest or even following a violent coughing spell.  Rib contusions are as painful as rib fractures.  Both take about 10 to 12 weeks to heal, with the healing progressing about 10% per week.  Rib fractures can be associated with more serious injuries such as pneumothorax which occurs when the broken rib punctures a lung, but most require no specific care.
