can taking high doses of vitamin d3, 5000 iu's daily for two years straight cause me to have multiple tiny kidney stones in both kidneys?

Maybe: This dose is well above what you'd need to prevent the deficiency in this vitamin that is so common nowadays, but is not outrageously high. Kidney stones are a hazard in extreme vitamin d oversupplementation but this dose is considered safe. You'd do well to take a look at all your risk factors -- genetic tendency to absorb calcium, fluid intake, composition of any stones you passed.

Stones: 1 cm kidney stones, while significant, are not likely to cause severe pain.  They may be treated by eswl on an outpatient basis.

Kidney stones: You could see a rise in WBC's with kidney stones but not RBC's.  See your doctor.

Stones: Calcium oxylate stones cannot be dissolved.  Prevention efforts center around hydration 
( 2 liters of urine produced daily) and limiting foods containing oxylic acid.

Kidney stones & infx: Many areas have clinics that base fees on sliding scale according to pt's income. In meantime, drink plenty of water & cranberry juice to keep kidneys flushed & possibly help fight infection. Hospital clinics often r willing to work out payment schedule for those who have no insurance.

A good result,,: It's hard to say if these resulted in resolution of your stones directly as the octacosonol is possibly beneficial by inhibiting cholesterol production and the vit k2-mk7  helps with heart disease and bone health, but they could have indirectly helped.  It's possible they were calcium stones and were dissolved and they may have helped renal function and circulation to clear any stone.

Kidney stones: Non obstructing stones should not cause too much discomfort.  They also shouldnt cause you to void a lot unless they are passing.

See below: Kidney stones cause blockage or ripples in the flow of urine and sometimes the blckage may be complete.Uti can be a cystitis ie a blader infection alone, or pyelonephritis ie a infection upto the kidneys.Prescence of a stone or many stones cause a susceptibility to infection, and it would advisable to seek a urologist to eliminate the stones and also try and prevent new ones.

cat scan shows kidney stones in both kidneys. largest 10mm right side. had on and off dull low back pain and blood in urine. can they cause damage?

Yes: If the kidney stone blocks the flow of urine from the kidney, you can get permanent kidney damage, but that can take weeks to happen and is associated with severe pain.  Also, kidney stones can become infected from pyelonephritis (kidney infection - not a typical urinary tract infection (uti)) and be challenging to treat.  Please see your health care provider and consider a referral to urology.
