Different: Er is just for emergencies and stabilize patients until they are routed to appropriate level of care. A trauma center is a hospital has a group of highly trained physicians and surgeons taking care of trauma patients. These include specialties like general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, ENT etc.

At age24, likely yes: People with asplenia or hyposplenia are at an increased risk of severe infection, not from viruses but from encapsulated bacteria (including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, E coli, and Salmonella). Severe illness may develop if infected with parasites like those in malaria or babesiosis. They should be vaccinated against S. pneumo., H. influen., N. mening.

No: I cant explain any direct effect of trauma to an end organ like the penis directly on the brain. There may be some psychological after-effect, but not a direct effect.

Splenectomy: Viruses are fought by other parts of the immune system, not necessarily the spleen. Without a spleen you are at risk for encapsulated bacteria infection like strep pneumonia, pseudomonas, the meningitis bacteria. For pneumonia and meningitis there are vaccines. Get vaccinated, follow up with MD.

i have a weakened immune system (no spleen from trauma), i am 27. i have had 5 covid vaccine shots (primary with boosters). got covid, eligible for paxlovid. whats my general outlook? concerned about long term health and long covid because of this?

: It is imperative that you get vaccinated for pneumococcal infection. Your doctor can arrange the vaccination. Long Covid is not predictable.

my 10 month old dtr appears to be unable to actively extend her 2nd digit at the dip jt. i am able to passively extend it fully. there is no signs of trauma or injury. what could this be?

See pediatrician: Was there past trauma, bruising, swelling of the digit? An avulsion fracture with separation of the extensor digitorum from its insertion on the distal phalanx can happen from a blow to the tip of the finger such as from catching a ball. Please take your baby to the pediatrician for an evaluation and referral ASAP. I am assuming this is a new problem.

Don't worry: Unless she threw it with intentional hard force, just dropping an object the weight of an I-phone on her head will do nothing more than cause a little bruise if anything. Remember, 5 weeks ago her head squeezed together through a birth canal. It's more resilient than you think!
