M.D. visit: In a young infant, especially infants younger than six months of age, there can be a number of conditions causing these symptoms. These include infections, congenital abnormalities and allergic reactions to the formula. I would recommend a follow up visit soon with your physician.

Yes consult your MD: You have this problem of chronic constipation.It may just be functional constipation and it may be causing blockage in your rectum and/or colon, or you may have a medical condition causing your symptoms like irritable bowel syndrome with constipation.You may need just enema and/or laxatives or prescription meds to relieve your symptoms at young age of 19.

i would like to know-my baby who is  7days old poops with every nappy change. this morning it looked like light brown yellowish colour. was  watery and bits and pieces(mucus/slimy texture) in there as well is this normal?

Baby nappy: Newborns go through a period in which their stool consistency is usually quite soft and may be watery.   Over time, the frequency of stools may also change.  If your baby is eating well, has stools several times a day, and most important, is gaining weight and growing, you are doing a good job.

Need doctor visit: There are multiple possible causes for something like this -- i see you also have abdominal pain and diarrhea along with the mucus in your poop.  Inflammatory bowel conditions like crohn's are possible.  Treatment is possible too.  Please do see your physician as soon as possible.

IBS...: Passage of ano-rectal mucous in the absence of other symptoms, is usually a benign symptom seen in patients with ibs (irritable bowel syndrome).  If you are having severe diarrhea, anorectal pain or blood in the stools you should see your doctor. Good luck!

Consider these...: Mucus discharge occurs in up to 50% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, with or without pain. Mucus may also be produced in response to partial obstruction, chronic constipation, rectal dysfunction, infection, ; even from secretory villous tumors of the rectum. At the very least stool studies should help address if mucus white bits you're seeing are "worms" (pinworms, etc.) so rx can begin.

Could be: Hemorrhoids.Depends on if you are straining a lot lately or sitting at job much of the time for instance and there is ana-rectal pain upon attempting bm's and excessive itching otherwise.  If blood is spotting only and this sounds familiar try non medical counter measures e.g. Baby wipes to wipe, tucks, (witch hazel) whole veggies and fruits to gently soften stools etc.If no improvement see doc next week.

Typically : Typically mucous in a baby's stool is due to mucous that was swallowed by the baby. However if the problem persists, your baby should be evaluated by her pediatrician. There are certain disorders of malabsorption that can result in this. The fact that it's of new onset and has only been for a week likely indicates the former. If you are concerned, please visit the doctor.
