healthy male, 51-years old. have very bad bronchitis since january 31. i was prescribed meds and i was also told to take mucinex dm max every 4-hours. i have been taking this every 4 hours since jan 31. how long can i keep taking this every 4 hours?

Too often, too long: Mucinex DM is to be taken twice a day for only few days during peak symptoms.if you still experience cough and respiratory symptoms after 1 month it’s time to let your prescriber know.

whats better for bronchitis, robitussin dm, mucinex dm or something else? ive been taking robitussin but its not working too well. is there anything different or better between the two when theyre both dm? (had a chest x-ray &shows no pneumonia?

: Unfortunately none of those will treat bronchitis. Most bronchitis is viral and even if bacterial it would not show up on an X-ray. Sometimes it is treated with an antibiotic but mostly needs to resolve with time. However, please contact your doctor if not improving or if worsening.

Too much Rx: I wouldn't mix the codeine containing cough medicine with Mucinex (guaifenesin) DM which contains dextromethorphan. The dextromethorphan is basically an analog of a narcotic and you would be getting an excessive dose of narcotic which could cause excessive sedation, respiratory supression,  nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and other adverse effects.

can i take benzonatate with mucinex dm (dextromethorphan and guafanisen) and ibuprofen? i have bronchitis.

You may: Make sure to stay hydrated so that mucus does not become too thick. You may use steam inhalation to facilitate the expectoration of mucus.

Not recommended: The DM component is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Plain mucinex to loosen mucus is recommended for them.

Caution: you better try the plain mucinex though, as the 'D' part, pseudoephedrine may interact with promethazine. or don't take them at the same time

: Typically thus is fine, but read all instructions for use and the insert. Nasal saline spray is often effective in reducing the symptoms of congestion and post nasal drip.
