Maybe: Mrsa bacteria are now everywhere in the environment.They are responsible for 70% of the pustules and abscesses i see in the office weekly coming from community sources.Your exposure to known cases at least makes you aware and interested in caution and extra handwashing as needed. The germ does not jump through the air, and despite its present notariety it is not that special.

Your flora: are already a part of your baby as are your antibodies.  If you are worried about MRSA colonization you can be cultured.

MRSA: MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureus) can be spread via saliva as well as other body fluids. You would be at additional risk for infection if  breaks in your skin come in contact with your daughter's saliva. Incubation period for MRSA is one to ten days after entering skin breaks or damaged mucus membranes such as nose or mouth. Key to carefully wash hands after coming in contact w her saliva.

Varies...: ...From region to region, state to state. Your hospital should have that information, as should your state regulatory agency. As a general rule, though, that risk is pretty small; the obstetricians and nurses all wear sterile gowns and maintain scrupulous sterile technique for the specific purpose of preventing any infections, including mrsa.

MRSA is everywhere: Mrsa is a bacteria that is everywhere, not just on infected people.      Mrsa is considered an opportunistic pathogen, which means that if it is at the right place and the wrong time in a susceptible individual, then problems can arise.      Proper hand washing will most likely suffice.

I do not think so: Just because someone has MRSA , you do not acquire unless you are closely associated with that person. It is very unlikely to contract the infection if you take proper precautions such as wearing gloves etc.

May become ill: Most of us carry staphylococci in our bodies somewhere, often on the skin and mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.  This includes mrsa.  You may be able to minimize the risk of its producing infection at a later date by attempting to eliminate it with Mupirocin nasal application and washing with Chlorhexidine containing soap, but ask your pediatrician about this.

MRSA: Mrsa stands for methicillin resistant staph aureus. It is a resistant strain of staph. Being exposed to MRSA doesn't mean you will get it. Being exposed to MRSA doesn't hurt your baby. Prevent getting MRSA by washing your hands regularly.

can a 6 month old baby be around a person who has mrsa but it is not active/infected at that time. ?

No contact: Avoid all contact with person, since clothes, skin can be contaminated. I mean direct contact, it is not airborne tyically
