: If you do have a kidney infection,(pyelonephritis), your doctors would certainly choose an antibiotic which would address staph aureus where sensitivity is present, to eradicate problem.  Ask the physicians how they decide what antibiotic is to be used for you.

No: MRSA is a type of Staph infection that is resistant to penicillin-type antibiotics. MRSA infections can occur in many parts of the body, but blood infection, or internal infection with MRSA is life-threatening and needs IV antibiotics. More commonly, MRSA causes either skin infections or boils underneath skin. Prescription oral antibiotics are required: clindamycin, tetracycline, or "Bactrim".

Answer is...: Doctors in a group that are unaware  about  the concept  of  anti microbial stewardship . In certain cases such as cellulitis, a potent but less expensive drug can be used such as Doxycycline or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole.

Thirty MInute Rule: I teach my patients, especially those on medications that may cause upset stomachs, if they throw up within thirty minutes after taking a medication they should retake it. If it is longer than thirty minutes they wait to take the next dose when it is due.

Sensitivity: Antibiotics sensitivity testing will be needed and duration established based on location and specifics of the infection.

i was just diagnosed with ca-mrsa and i'm scared since it is often resistant to drugs. i just started bactrim ds tonight. what are the chances of it not responding to any drug? how can you know if it's caught early enough? thank you!

Partially resistant: Ca MRSA is not particularly worse than having regular staph infection.  It is not related to the flesh eating bacteria scare.  The choice of antibiotics is limited, but generally the infection is sensitive to at least a few of the mainstream antibiotics of which Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is one. If your doctor thought you were at great risk you would not be at home.

i was on bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) (sulpha drug/antibiotic) for mrsa on my left hand. i had allergic reaction, stopped drug but now right fingertips are numb!?

Some basics: MRSA in not the plague or rare or as bad as many make it out to be. It can be found as the cause of most simple abscesses or pustules seen by doctors &amp; those germs are everywhere. Many simple older drugs like bactrim kill it easily as do many others.
