what otc medication to use when you have herpes sores on the mouth ?

Abreva cream: Abreva is the over-the-counter cream for oral herpes lesions on or near the lips. (Note - herpes lesions in an eye is very serious and needs an eye doctor.) If a person has often got oral herpes, he can take anti-viral pills daily to try to prevent outbreaks. Otherwise, he can get a prescription for the oral anti-viral to use right away at the beginning of each outbreak. Abreva cream helps so-so.

Depends: It entirely depends on what medications you've taken.  I'm a little hard pressed to think of what two meds might cause those symptoms when taken together however.  Always check with your doctor before taking more than one medication at a time.  If you are taking over-the-counter medication sometimes you can call the manufacturer to ask them questions about it.

Hyperventilation: The most common cause of tingling around the mouth is hyperventilation (breathing fast), and the most common reason people breath fast is from anxiety/panic attacks.

Never cortisone: for viral infections- without a photo, I suggest a pediatric evaluation and precription. Cortisone can worsen certain viral infections.

Dry mouth meds: You should talk to your doctor, have him change the meds if your dryness is so bad you can not tolerate it.

Xerostomia: Antidepressants, benzodiazepines, lithium and antipsychotics may cause dry mouth.  At least some of these may cause sx's through an anticholinergic effect.
