Depends: on amount of caffeine mom is ingesting.  I once saw an infant whose mom consumed 4 liters of Mountain Dew daily - this infant had significant withdrawal.  On the other hand, I see plenty of normal newborns whose mothers still had one cup of coffee daily.  Good luck!

Intrinsic stain: If an expectant mom were prescribed the cycline family of antibiotics, then the babies permanent teeth may be intrinsically mottled when these teeth erupt. The color of tetracycline mottled teeth is not a surface stain. It is the inside and through & through color of the individual's teeth. These teeth may require aesthetic dentistry in the future.

Unfortunate: This was extremely unfortunate, and she may have been deceived by an anti-transfusion cult and/or anti-medical disinformation. Unfortunately, even the father has no rights with regards to the well-being of the unborn child. Most of the time, these babies come to term with no problem. These people may come around when they discover they've been deceived, but it's a hard road. Be strong.

You will lose weight: If you are eating a healthy well-balanced diet and are exercising you should lose weight. If you are not accomplishing this you should see your physician so that an evaluation can be performed.

Depends: As maternal age increases, the risk of down's syndrome and other chromosomal problems increases.  At age 18, the risk is 1/20, 000, at age 28 it is 1/2000, at age 38 it is 1/200, at age 48 it is 1/10.  The other risks that can increase with maternal age are blood pressure problems, diabetes of pregnancy, etc.

At birth: Smoking in a mother can affect the fetus at birth, in that they are often small for gestational age, and can have respiratory problems due to this.  If the baby did well at birth, they may do ok, but may still be small, at least for a while.

Should Not: Some men will eat more during their spouse's pregnancy as there is more food around. But, hormonally there should be no change. It is just like some women will eat more in company as compared to when they are alone.

Ideally should avoid: Cardiomyopathy in pregnancy is a difficult situation, because often times the mother requires medications to maintain a stable status, that may be teratogenic to the fetus.  We often worn or recc against pregnancy in known patients with lv dysfunction.  However, it can be done with close supervision, and adjustment of meds with risk to the mother and baby.

Birth defects: There are a number of substances that are abused by inhaling.  They can cause birth defects, depending on which one you use.  Please do not sniff when you are pregnant, or even if you are not pregnant!  this is a very dangerous habit.
