Yes: Definitely have your physician examine your hand. These are not symptoms and signs of an uncomplicated insect bite. The lump could be from some bleeding under the skin or be a secondary bacterial infection.

Several possibility: You may have been bitten by something other than a mosquito, may have had an unusually severe reaction to the bite, or may have developed a secondary infection due to breaking the skin while scratching.  If the finger is red, warm , painful or gets worse would see a hand surgeon asap.  Infections in fingers can extend upwards very quickly.

Infection? : A swollen finger could indicate an infection that needs antibiotics or even drainage. Is there pain? Redness? Warmth? If any of these signs is there with the swelling more chance of infection. Please have it looked at by a doctor. In the meantime use ice compresses and ibuprofen for pain/swelling.

Swollen hands: I am very fond of telling people that the main tool that a dermatologist has to use in his or her practice is their eyeballs! that means that you should have this problem looked at by dermatologist personally. It is very possible that your child had a bite of a different type of event mosquitoes but there are other causes of hands that swell.  These could be toxic bug bites or contact allergy.

Swollen Hand: It does sound like a bite. A burn would unlikely get swollen that quickly. Keep it clean and use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for swelling and itching. If it changes color or the swelling gets worse or there is drainage, see her MD for further care. All the best.
